FAQ About Samples

šŸ“

Ā I ordered a sample—why didn’t I receive a full tile?

Samples are smaller pieces meant to help you evaluate the material’s color, texture, and finish before placing a full order. Large-format tiles cannot be sent as full pieces for sampling. The sample is designed to preview the product’s look and surface—not the full tile size.

šŸ“·

Why does my sample look different from the pictures on the website?

Online photos can look different due to lighting, camera settings, and screen brightness. Some product photos may also be taken in staged settings or after sealing (depending on the material). For the best evaluation, view your sample in your space, under your lighting (daylight and evening), and use the photos as a helpful reference—not an exact match.

šŸŽØ

Why can samples vary in color or pattern (even for porcelain)?

Some products—natural stone and many porcelain designs (including marble-look styles)—have intentional variation in tone, veining, or pattern movement. This variation is normal and part of the material or design. If a product has variation, pieces of the same product may not look identical.

šŸ”¢

Why did I receive one piece for some samples and two pieces for others?

Sample quantity depends on the product and how it’s best represented:

  • If a material is very consistent, we may send one piece.

  • If a product has visible variation (shade, pattern, or movement), we may include two pieces of the same product to show that variation.

  • Trims/liners and glass items are typically one piece.

If you receive two pieces, they are from the same product—not two different products.

šŸ”Ž

I got my full order, and it doesn’t match the sample exactly—why?

A sample represents a small snapshot of the product. A full order covers a larger area and may naturally show more range in tone, pattern, or movement—especially for products with variation. The sample helps preview the overall look, but it cannot display every possible variation that may appear across a full shipment.

šŸ«—

Will sealing change the color of the tile? How can I preview the finished look?

It depends on the material and finish:

  • Polished marble typically shows little to no visible color change after sealing.

  • Travertine and tumbled finishes may appear noticeably richer/darker after sealing.

  • Enhancing sealers can deepen color and contrast even more (commonly used on travertine).
  • Porcelain doesn’t change color when you seal it.

To preview the sealed look, you can lightly wipe the sample with water—this often mimics the deeper tone you’ll see after sealing (especially on porous or textured stones). If color is critical, you can also request photos of the current lot before your order ships.
