Philadelphia Travertine Tile and Mosaics
Philadelphia travertine is a Turkish travertine with a varied, natural palette. Each piece differs a little in tone and texture, which gives floors and walls an organic, old-world feel. It works well in both traditional and transitional interiors.
Where it works
Kitchen backsplashes, bathroom floors and walls, shower walls, fireplace surrounds and accent walls. Tumbled 3x6, 4x4 and 6x6 tiles are a popular backsplash choice. Split-face mosaics add texture to feature walls.
Finishes and sizes
Choose tumbled for softened edges and an aged surface, filled and honed for a smooth matte finish, or split-face for rough, 3D texture. Field tile comes in 12x12, 18x18, 12x24 and 9x18. Smaller formats include 3x6, 4x4, 6x6, 4x12, 6x12, 2x8 and 4x8, and mosaics include brick and herringbone. There are also matching pencil liners, bullnose and chair rails.
Price range
Most Philadelphia travertine runs about $8 to $17 per sq ft. Tumbled small formats sit at the lower end, and larger honed tile at the top.
Care
Seal tumbled and split-face tile before grouting to prevent grout haze, then seal again after installation. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and reseal periodically.
